Dr Frederic Leusch is Dean (Research) in the Sciences Group and Professor in the School of Environment and Science at Griffith University. Fred also leads the ARI Toxicology Research Program (ARITOX – www.aritox.com) at the Australian Rivers Institute. His current research focuses on occurrence, fate and toxicity of contaminants of emerging concern (such as micropollutants and microplastics) and the development of effect-based methods for water quality assessment.
Fred has a robust research track record, with more than 160 peer-reviewed publications, an h-index of 53 and an i10-index of 119; he has an extensive network of international collaborators and project management experience. His research addresses global concern about pollution of scarce potable water resources and aligns closely with six UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG3, SDG6, SDG11, SDG12, SDG14 and SDG17).
Fred teaches the course Ecotox and Impact Assessment (2212ENV) in Trimester 3. He currently co-supervises 8 PhD candidates on various projects related to contaminants of emerging concern and effect-based methods, and is available to co-supervise further PhD projects – please get in touch with him if you would like to find out more.
Fred serves on various national and international committees on issues related to the significance of trace organic pollutants to drinking and recycled water quality, including as a member of the Advisory Committee on the Environmental Management of Industrial Chemicals, as member of the Water Quality Advisory Committee (WQAC) to the NHMRC since 2013, and more recently on various OECD working group on bioassay test method development.
