Jacqui Robertson

  • Chief Investigator
  • Griffith University

Jacqui’s research focusses on inclusive water governance which has developed from her private and government legal practice. She worked for over two decades as a legal practitioner specialising in environmental, resources and planning law. Jacqui’s private practice expertise primarily relates to advisory work with respect to approvals for the extractive industries, such as, mining, oil, and quarries as well as energy projects. She has also advised private sector non-resources clients (for example, large residential developments) in respect of planning and environmental legal issues. In government, Jacqui advised numerous departments about land use issues relating to the environment, planning and resources in the context of a broad range of legislation. A common theme for many clients related to water issues, either relating to quantum (too much/not enough) or water quality impacts.

Her PHD focussed on water use in the resources sector. Jacqui has published widely in respect of the governance of water. Her publications relate to: water governance in the mining and gas industries; the legislative mechanisms for managed aquifer recharge for both the resources industry and generally as a water security mechanism; and challenges in respect of the governance of the Great Artesian Basin legislative regime. Her recent research projects relate to corporate commitments to water stewardship in mining and how a new hydrogen industry in Queensland may be accommodated in the Queensland water governance framework.
